Paper is free to write, but it weighs as much as written. You may be able to carry 10 books, but you can't carry 100. Also, paper cannot be structured, cannot be linked, cannot be indexed, cannot be searched automatically -- you need to turn the pages yourself!
Online documents can cover these. It's also faster to type than to write. But once if you want to add figures, formulas, tables, graphs or links, you have to finger with tags or menus instead of just writing them by pen -- yuck!
