MAIL ART EXHIBIT ON THE THEME OF ARTICLE 9.
OF THE JAPANESE CONSTITUTION
The theme of this exhibit, to be held
in Amagasaki City, Japan, from March 1-May
31 2005, is Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution.
Although article 9 has significant support
in Japanese society, there is growing pressure
from both within the Japanese power structure
and from outside Japan to change it.
The debate will surely intensify over the
coming years.
Article 9 reads, in its entirety:
Aspiring
sincerely to an international peace based
on justice and order, the Japanese people
forever renounce war as a sovereign right
of the nation and the threat or use of force
as a means of settling international disputes.
In order
to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph,
land, sea, and air forces, as well as other
war potential, will never be maintained.
The right of belligerency of the state will
not be recognized.

, a cafe which sponsors not only art
but live music performances, films and other
