kcontrol's font chooser overrides /etc/fonts/fonts.conf.
(It generates ~/.fonts.conf)
You need to change kcontrol's Hinting style.

Run $ kcontrol
-> Choose "Hinting style = None".




Autohint looks bad for CJK (or square) characters.
I think a) is better.
