Expanding upon the lavish sets, special effects, and grand adventure of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry involves a darker, more malevolent tale (parents with younger children beware), beginning with the petrified bodies of several Hogwarts students and magical clues leading Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) to a 50-year-old mystery in the monster-laden Chamber of Secrets. House elves, squealing mandrakes, giant spiders, and venomous serpents populate this loyal adaptation (by Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus and screenwriter Steve Kloves), and Kenneth Branagh delightfully tops the supreme supporting cast as the vainglorious charlatan Gilderoy Lockhart (be sure to view past the credits for a visual punchline at Lockhart's expense). At 161 minutes, the film suffers from lack of depth and uneven pacing, and John Williams' score mostly reprises established themes. The young, fast-growing cast offers ample compensation, however, as does the late Richard Harris in his final screen appearance as Professor Albus Dumbledore. Brimming with cleverness, wonderment, and big-budget splendor, Chamber honors the legacy of J.K. Rowling's novels. --Jeff Shannon
| Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets : 現地ハリウッド市民の評価 : 英語批評版 : Native Evaluation | | | | | Extremely bad sound quality / 2005-12-25
This might be a great motion picture, and perhaps other reviewers are writing reviews based on what they saw in the theater. The sound quality on the DVD I purchased is extremly bad. That is compounded by some spots where there seems to be no sound at all. The poor quality is inexcusable when it comes from a major corporation. It indicates that purchases should be made from sources where they can be returned - definitely not from discount stores and such. | | | | | | | | | | | | If only I could do Trig! / 2005-12-18
I would examine every square centimeter of this movie with a graphing calculator and a slide rule if I could. Excellent special effects! Watson, Radcliffe and Grint once again make the worthy endeavor! "Ne oublie" has never been more appropriate! | | | | | | | | | | | | Harry Potter does it again!!! / 2005-12-14
This is the second Harry Potter movie and another winner! These movies just keep getting better. I'm glad that they are so close to the book, I'd be disappointed if they were off. With each passing year Harry and his friends get into more trouble and have to figure out a way to defeat Voldemort. This movie is suspenseful, a comedy, and full of drama. I absolutely loved it! | | | | | | | | | | | | DVD missing scenes!!! / 2005-12-11
I am most distressed to find that the "Widescreen Special Edition" DVD I purchased is missing numerous small scenes-scenes that are integral to understanding the story!! I have also noticed missing scenes in the Sorceror's Stone and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which are "Special Editions" as well. I, for one, will purchase no more Harry Potter DVD's until this practice stops. I am quite disgusted with the Harry Potter marketers and producers--I feel that I have been cheated out of my money. When JK Rowling and etc. begin selling unabridged products, I will consider purchasing her movies again. The movies themselves are good; the DVD's are an outright rip-off. BUYER BEWARE!!! Disappointed fan | | | | | | | | | | | | HAROLD POTTER MOVIES ARE THE WORST EVER!!! / 2005-12-11
Once again this is another stupid movie that should be ranked with no stars.Daniel Radcliffe has absolutely no talent because he can't do any other motion pictures besides Harold Potter movies. The reviewers out there must be gullable to be buying into this crap!!! I'd wish this dumb Harold Potter fad will go away forever! If you are into this crap(books or movies)then you must not have anything better to do...What a waste of time!!!
